Crocheting with purpose...
Let's face it. Crocheting is not simply about finding a project that seems fun and unique, though there's much to love about that. I mean, what's better than eyeing a new afghan and feeling the excitement bubble over when the yarn you've ordered to complete the project has just arrived? That, my friends, is the stuff of life. But crocheting is bigger than just the fun stuff. Crocheting is often done out of necessity, and I would go so far as to say that we need to be doing more of it. As prices continue to climb, and economic uncertainty is on everyone's mind...pretty soon we may not have all that much of a choice.
In the spirit of having greater awareness of the times, I decided to work up something simple. And yes, I'm seriously that corny you guys. I will consider it my dutiful contribution to society, if you promise not to laugh me to shame. Seriously though, what's better than saving a few bucks by using what you have to make what you need?
Hence, my post.
I went about my mission, as a wonderful contribution to society, by corralling together aqua and orchid yarn and my favorite crochet hooks. I needed a slimmer wallet, instead of the monstrosity I've been carrying around that can only be described as being reminiscent of the football...and I ain't talking NFL here. I digress.
I thought about the yarn and how I wanted the wallet to feel in my hands. I thought about versatility and how I could use it as a wristlet or add it to my key chain. I figured I could make something that would be slender and be just flexible enough to where I could slip it into the pocket of my favorite jeans if I wanted to. I'm happy with what I came up with...and the pattern is now available if you would like to try it too. Find it at www.etsy.com/shop/loopsbyelle
I won't win a Nobel Peace Prize for this one...but maybe, just maybe I have won the day.
From my heart to your hooks,
Ellie.
