Three for One

Have you ever had an experience where you realize you've stumbled upon a gift that just keeps on giving? You know, the kind of thing that seems to randomly come together so perfectly and above your expectations?  It's those serendipitous moments when all the little wheels are moving in-sync and one thing gives you a bountiful harvest of incredible outcomes! Such has happened to me this week.

I can hardly control my glee, as this week I was feeling a bit creative. Now, any professional crochet designer will tell you the pressure to create can be rather intense. The pressure to create, to come up with things that are interesting and beautiful (or useful!) is not always conducive to much-needed tangible results. Often, I have my next several projects worked out in my head long before I've even finished hiding the final thread of a current project with my tapestry needle. As I type this very blog entry, I already know what is coming next. Kid you not.

Despite this mildly impressive creative process, stuff does happen. Ideas that seemed to be spectacular sometimes work out to be duds, or sometimes my brain invents a masterful stitch design that my hands find difficult to reproduce. Then, there's those moments when (cue angelic chorus!) you finish and stand back and are so happy with how things went.

I'm happy with how things went this week.

So... I designed a new granny square, figuring it was time to make sure my website patterns for purchase really showed off the diversity of my skill. I don't ever want to be a one-trick pony, you know? So, I came up with my own, rather sophisticated version of the typical daisy granny square and opted for an impressionist version with layers of daisy petals surrounding a golden disc of yarn. I added a pop of interest by choosing BOLD colors to really make each daisy offering standout. And you know what? I kind of love it. Okay, I really love it. A lot.

Enjoy these photos! :)

From my heart to your hooks,

Ellie.

Now, a granny square is literally just a square blob of nothing if you can't do anything with it. So I began to think about how I could get the most out of this one, and BOY was I thrilled when I came up with the following:

Ellie's Daisy Granny Square

The Daisy Phone Crossbody and Shoulder Bag

Sweet Daisy Dreams Granny Square Bag

So, I really did get three creative items from just one crochet square design. And there's oh-so-much more one can do with this square than even that. For now, I will just take a moment to appreciate the fact that everything panned out.

We'll see what happens next time.
